Installing Mods & Plugins
Open Mods
Go to your server dashboard and click Mods in the sidebar. Make sure Browse is selected.
Search Modrinth
Type a name in the search box. Results are pulled live from Modrinth and are already filtered to your server's loader (Paper plugins or Forge mods), so everything you see should be compatible with your template.
Install
Click Install on the mod or plugin you want. Plex Host resolves the newest compatible file for your loader and downloads it straight to your server — you don't pick a specific version.
Dependencies
If the mod declares required dependencies on Modrinth, Plex Host installs those automatically first. A dependency that Modrinth can't resolve to a specific project (some mods only list a filename) is skipped — you'll need to install that one manually from its Modrinth page.
Where Files Land
| Template | Directory |
|---|---|
| Paper | plugins/ |
| Forge | mods/ |
You can see (and remove) these files from the File Manager as well as from the Mods page.
Restarting
Installing a mod or plugin does not restart your server automatically. Most mods and plugins are only loaded when the server process starts, so restart the server from the Overview or Console page for a newly installed mod to take effect.
Always back up your server before installing a new mod, especially on a world you care about — an incompatible mod can prevent the server from starting.
Checking Version Compatibility
Plex Host filters search results and install candidates by your server's mod loader (Paper or Forge), but it does not currently filter by your exact Minecraft version — it installs the most recently published file for that loader. Before installing, check the mod's Modrinth page for the game versions it lists as supported, and compare that against the Minecraft version your server is running.
Permission Required
Installing requires Write (or Admin) file access on the server. Read-only team members can browse Modrinth but the Install button is disabled for them.
