Discord

Plex Host can post your server alerts to a Discord channel. If your host has enabled the Plex bot, you can also check and control your servers from Discord with /plex commands.

Webhook Alerts

A webhook posts alerts from Plex Host into one Discord channel. You can add a webhook to a team, which covers every server in the team, or to a single server from its settings.

  1. Go to Team settings → Integrations, or Server settings → Integrations for one server
  2. Click Add webhook
  3. In Discord, open the channel's settings, go to Integrations → Webhooks, create a webhook, and click Copy URL
  4. Back in Plex Host, enter a Label so you can recognise the webhook later, like #server-status
  5. Paste the Discord webhook URL
  6. Choose the Events to post. The list is grouped into Server, Backups, Automations and Integrations
  7. Click Add webhook

The URL is stored write-only. After you save it, Plex Host shows only its last characters. To change it, edit the webhook and paste a new URL. Leave the field empty to keep the current one.

Send a Test

Open the menu on a webhook and choose Send test, then check the Discord channel for the test message. If the test cannot be delivered, the webhook's row shows the failure.

Delivery Status

Each webhook row shows the result of its last alert:

  • Nothing sent yet: no alert has been posted through this webhook
  • Last alert delivered, with the time, when the last post succeeded
  • Last alert failed (Discord answered …), with the HTTP status Discord returned. If several alerts failed in a row, the row also shows how many

Automatic Turn-Off and Turning It Back On

If 20 alerts fail in a row, Plex Host turns the webhook off, and its row shows Turned off after repeated failures. The person who created the webhook also gets a notification. To fix it, check in Discord that the webhook still exists and that the channel is still available, then click Turn back on.

Delete a Webhook

Open the menu on a webhook, choose Delete, and confirm. Discord stops receiving alerts through that webhook. This cannot be undone.

Treat a webhook URL like a password. Anyone who has it can post messages to your channel. Do not paste it into public chats or share it in screenshots.

Linking Your Account

Linking connects your Discord account to your Plex Host account, so the Plex bot can run commands as you. Your Plex Host permissions apply to every command.

  1. In a Discord server where the Plex bot is installed, type /plex link
  2. The bot replies with a link and an 8-character code. The code is valid for 10 minutes
  3. In Plex Host, go to Account → Integrations, find the Discord card, and either enter the code in Link code and click Link, or open the link the bot gave you and confirm

To unlink, click Unlink on the Discord card under Account → Integrations, or type /plex unlink in Discord. After you unlink, the bot no longer recognises you until you link again.

Commands

Type these in a Discord server where the Plex bot is installed. Replies are visible only to you.

CommandOptionsWhat it does
/plex linknoneStarts linking your Discord account to Plex Host and replies with a link and a code
/plex unlinknoneUnlinks your Discord account from Plex Host
/plex serversnoneLists the servers you can access
/plex statusserver (optional)Shows a server's status, player count and address
/plex playersserver (optional)Shows who is online on a server, when the server can report it
/plex startserver (optional)Starts a server
/plex stopserver (optional)Stops a server
/plex restartserver (optional)Restarts a server
/plex saymessage (required), server (optional)Sends a message to the server's in-game chat
/plex bindserver (optional)Binds this channel to a server
/plex unbindnoneRemoves the binding from this channel

Server Names

Put the server's name or its short id in server. If no server you can access matches, the bot says so and suggests /plex servers.

Binding a Channel

A bound channel knows which server it controls, so you can leave out server there. For example, after /plex bind Survival, /plex status in that channel shows Survival. You can bind a channel only to a server you can control, and the binding never gives anyone more access than they already have. Run /plex bind again to point the channel at another server, and /plex unbind to remove the binding.

Who Can Run What

Your Plex Host permissions decide what you can do. If you can view a server but not control it, /plex status and /plex players work for you, but /plex start, /plex stop, /plex restart and /plex say do not. When a command is not allowed, the bot replies You do not have permission to control followed by the server name.

Replies from the bot are ephemeral: only you can see them, even when you type the command in a shared channel.

Troubleshooting

The code expired. Codes are valid for 10 minutes. Run /plex link again in Discord to get a new code.

"You do not have permission" appears. Your Plex Host account does not have that permission on that server. Ask a team owner or admin of the server to change your role.

"Discord answered 404" appears on a webhook. The webhook was deleted in Discord. Create a new webhook in the channel, copy its URL, and edit the webhook in Plex Host to paste the new URL.

The bot does not respond to /plex. Check with your host that the Plex bot is installed in the server you are using.
