Payment Failures & Suspension

If a subscription charge fails, your server isn't suspended immediately — you get a grace period to fix it first.

Grace period and retention lengths below are the defaults; your Plex Host operator can configure different values. Always trust what your Billing page shows for your own subscription.

What Happens When a Payment Fails

  1. Payment failed — you'll get an email, and your subscription is marked Past Due on your Billing page.
  2. Grace period — by default 7 days from the failed charge. Your server keeps running normally during this time.
  3. Suspended — if the grace period passes without a successful payment, every server on the subscription is stopped and suspended.
  4. Deleted — if a suspended subscription is never paid, its servers are deleted after a retention window (14 days by default) so you have time to pay or export your data first.

While Past Due

Your Billing page shows a notice with the date payment failed and when suspension will happen, plus two ways to fix it:

  • Pay now — opens the failed invoice for payment.
  • Update payment method — opens our billing portal (Stripe) to add a new card.

Your server keeps running as normal until the grace period ends — nothing is restricted yet.

While Suspended

  • Every page for the server shows a banner explaining it's suspended, linking back to Billing.
  • The server is stopped and cannot be started or restarted until the subscription is paid.
  • Your files, worlds, and backups are kept — nothing is deleted yet.
  • Paying the outstanding invoice (or updating your payment method and letting the retry succeed) automatically unsuspends every server on the subscription.

Before Deletion

If a suspended subscription still isn't paid by the end of the retention window, its servers are deleted. By default we take one final backup before deleting, but don't rely on that — pay or export what you need well before the deadline shown on your Billing page.

Fixing a Failed Payment

  1. Go to Billing
  2. Click Pay now to pay the failed invoice directly, or Update payment method to add a new card in the billing portal
  3. Once the charge succeeds, your subscription and servers are restored automatically — no need to contact support

Avoiding This

  • Keep your card up to date before it expires — update it any time from the Stripe billing portal via Update payment method.
  • Watch for the payment-failed email — it's sent the moment a charge fails, before anything is restricted.
